Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Therapy

Lynette Kent Podiatrist

Heel pain is a prevalent issue that affects individuals across various age groups and activity levels. In Geelong, our podiatry clinic has been at the forefront of treating heel pain since 2012, specializing in advanced therapies such as shockwave therapy. This non-invasive treatment has garnered significant attention for its efficacy in addressing conditions like plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel discomfort.

Understanding Heel Pain

Heel pain often stems from plantar fasciitis also known as plantar fasciosis with or without the presence of a  heel spur, which is a  thick band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. This condition typically manifests as sharp pain at the bottom of the heel, especially noticeable during the first steps after waking or prolonged periods of inactivity. Factors contributing to plantar fasciitis include overuse, improper footwear, and foot posture.

Shockwave Therapy: A Proven Solution

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) has emerged as a potent treatment for chronic plantar fasciitis. ESWT involves delivering sound waves to the affected area, promoting tissue regeneration and reducing pain. Clinical studies have demonstrated its effectiveness; for instance, research published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery concluded that ESWT significantly alleviates pain and enhances function in patients with chronic plantar fasciitis.

Our Expertise in Geelong

Since 2012, our Geelong-based podiatry clinic has been utilizing shockwave therapy to treat heel pain effectively. Our experienced practitioners are well-versed in administering ESWT, ensuring personalized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. We combine this advanced therapy with comprehensive assessments to address the root causes of heel pain, facilitating long-term relief and improved quality of life.

Why Choose Shockwave Therapy?

Patients often opt for shockwave therapy due to its non-invasive nature and minimal recovery time. The therapy addresses the underlying pathology by stimulating the natural healing processes, offering a sustainable solution to chronic heel pain.

Effective Treatment for plantar fasciitis in Geelong

.

Are you dealing with heel pain and want effective plantar fasciitis treatment in Geelong? Plantar fasciitis could be the culprit. This condition involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue running from your heel to your toes. It often causes sharp pain, especially in the morning or after periods of inactivity.

The cause of plantar fasciitis is excessive strain on the foot, which might result from high-impact activities, improper footwear, or abnormalities in foot structure. If you’re an avid runner, have a job requiring prolonged standing, or have high arches or flat feet, you’re at higher risk.

Treatment usually starts with conservative measures. Stretching exercises, such as calf stretches and plantar fascia stretches. Using supportive footwear or custom orthotics can provide additional relief. Over-the-counter pain relievers and ice application can also help reduce inflammation and pain.

For persistent cases our Geelong Podiatrists with over 7 decades of experience in treating foot pain will diagnose and treat your heel pain. Local Doctors refer to our clinic for more extensive treatment such as Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Therapy and Laser Therapy.  These effective, treatment strategies will be tailored to manage and ultimately alleviate your plantar fasciitis symptoms.
